CARRIE WHITE
CARRIE WHITE- THE PARASITE CALLED. BULLYING
And Carrie White, all wrapped-up in a custard yellow bathing towel, walks into the school bathroom after a not-so-sweet game of ‘ball in the pool’. She turns open the shower and little droplets of ice-cold hydrogen plus oxygen run over her white velvety skin. She picks up yellow toilet soap and rubs it on her body. She closes her eyes to inhale the scent and feel of the mixture of soap and water on her body...
and then she opens her eyes...
and...
Blood! Blood! Blood!
All over, her hands all through to her laps. She’s crying, thinking she has a disease or a problem. She runs out with a blood-stained towel pleading for help but what does she get? Classmates, girls alike, laughing, mocking and throwing tampons and pads at her, cursing and even taking a video clip of the event. And then it clicks to poor Carrie- she just had her first period! At 12th Grade!
So many individuals have had their self esteem snuffed out of them just the way a balloon feels when pierced by a pin. A pin is so small yet creates big effects; ever heard the words, small but mighty? That’s exactly what describes the pin.
Be careful of the choice of words, smirk on the lips and sparkle in your eyes, they could read much more meaning than what you intended.
Carrie was an innocent teenager who was mistreated by her mates. How many teenagers have had good life snatched away from them like her? Quite many, I must say. Bullying is what its called. Bullying doesn’t necessarily mean, ‘hey Emeka, make sure you always submit your fried pomo to me when you come to school each moring, ok?’ When you cheat someone, you’re a bully, when you make someone feel less than they are, you’re a bully, when you use your power in life threatening ways that affect your subjects, you’re a bully, when you’re proud and boast of all your father has, you are a BULLY. Come to think of it, it’s your dad’s money, not even yours! I shake my head in pity for you.
Quite a number of people think bullying has been eradicated. You are mistaken my friend. Ever thought about cyber bullying? When you see Nkiru’s post on twitter and send a nasty sub which in turn leads to a twitter fight. You think you are getting attention? Omo, you be bully.
I’m not saying I’m a saint but the way you treated someone when his ink got finished in the middle of a primary 2 class could make you memorable in that person’s mind for the rest of their lives.
Remember: The human mind is a sticky canvas. A lot of things get glued to it.
